Determination Of Samarium (iii) In Blood And Permanent Magnet Spectrophotometrically Using Rutin Hydrate Reagent

Highly and very sensitive spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of Sm (III) using rutin hydrate as a new analytical reagent. The method based on the complexation reaction between the metal ion Sm (III) and the reagent forming a yellowish green coloured complex at 446 nm. The complex was formed by using borate buffer at pH = 7.6 in presence of methanol as a solvent. The complex was stable at 65 °C. A linear calibration curve was obtained in the range from 10 to 90 µg ml-1. The molar absorptivity and Sandell’s sensitivity were found to be 1×104 L mol-1 cm-1 and 0.0150 µg cm-2. The stoichiometry of the complex was confirmed by using mole ratio and continuous variation methods which indicated that the ratio of reagent to metal is 1:1. The effects of the presence of different cations and anions as interferences in the determination of samarium (III) under the given conditions were investigated. The proposed method was applied for the determination of samarium (III) in biological and industrial samples.
