Effects Of Process Parameters On Taper Characteristics Of Cocrmo Alloy By Simple And Powder-mixed Micro-edm

ABSTRACT: In the present work, CoCrMo was machined using the Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) process. Powder-Mixed Electrical Discharge Machining (PMEDM) comprising two concentrations of Fe2O3 nano-powder suspended in dielectric EDM fluid was used to examine the Taper (T) characteristics. The selected process parameters examined were; Peak Current, Gap Voltage and Pulse-On Time. Subsequently, the mathematical correlations between the process parameters and Tapers were deduced by Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The results demonstrated that Peak Current and Pulse-On Time significantly influenced Taper properties, whereas gap voltage was an insignificant factor during simple EDM machining. Furthermore, peak current was the sole significant factor during PMEDM whereas Pulse-On Time and Gap Voltage were insignificant. Lastly, the findings revealed no significant differences between the Taper values with or without nano-powder mixed EDM
