Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior Of Weld Joint For Cold Stretched Aisi 304 At Cryogenic Temperatures.

AISI 304 is heavy in weight compared to other materials. So AISI 304 use cold stretching to obtain advantage of reducing the weight. Also cold stretched AISI 304 have a higher strength. In this study, we investigate the fatigue crack growth (FCG) of cold stretched AISI 304 (as-received) and cold stretched AISI 304 welded part at cryogenic temperature. Therefore, two different types specimen were prepared. Characteristics of FCG undergoing cyclic load was investigated using compact tension (CT) specimens at room and cryogenic temperatures. FCG tests of as-received and cold stretched AISI 304 welded part are conducted under 0.1 and 0.5 load rate and 10Hz sine wave cyclic load. From the FCG test results, we show fatigue crack growth rate-stress intensity factor range curves using compliance method. This study carried out the fractography of fatigue crack propagation using SEM.
