Effect Of Crumb Rubber Additive In Hot Mix Asphalt To The Value Of Residual Stability And The Resilient Modulus

The use of additives has been widely used to improve the performance of asphalt concrete mixture. Additive materials can contribute to the performance of asphalt and aggregate. Improved performance of asphalt mixture is not only to increase the strength of the asphalt mixture to compressive forces but against the bending strength. Damage to the road surface is also influenced by the environment such as high temperatures and water on the road surface at the time of the rainy season. The mechanism of crack occurred on the pavement due to the tensile strength at the bottom of the pavement due to a wheel load of vehicles. Increasing the temperature on the surface of the road keeps getting higher, especially in the cities of equatorial areas, this has led to permanent deformation occurs faster in the surface of the pavement. The objective of this research to determine the effect of adding crumb rubber to hot mix asphalt, can improve resistance to changes in temperature and the water influences to the strength and resilient modulus. Resilient modulus hot mix asphalt concrete is using the Indirect Tensile Test with the application of temperature variation of 25 °C to 45 °C with a temperature of 10 °C intervals. Most of the test specimen was first soaking temperature of 60 ° C for 24 hours. Comparison between the test object Marshall Standards and Marshall Immersion to determine the Residual of Marshall Stability and Modulus Resilient. The addition of crumb rubber additives has changed the characteristics of the 60/70 pen asphalt. The addition of 10% crumb rubber is mixed with asphalt is done by a mixture of wet, the additive is mixed with the virgin asphalt is heated and mixed with a certain stirrer rotation. The results showed that the addition of crumb rubber produced a performance additive in asphalt concrete mixture has a resistance to the effects of temperature and traffic load against damage cracking. The addition of crumb rubber has changed the optimum bitumen content of asphalt concrete mix and changes in the value of residual stability.
