Twenty Two Powdery Mildews From Southwest Iran

Powdery mildew fungi are obligate parasites of plants cause severe damage to plants. In order to identify them in the Kohgilouyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, in southwest Iran, infected plants in different area of this province sampled. Morphological characteristics of conidia, conidiophores, chasmothecium, asci, ascospores and haustoria of these fungi were studied and by using valid identification keys, 22 powdery mildew fungi belong to six genera identified as followed: Blumeria graminis f.sp. tritici, B. graminis f. sp. hordei, B. graminis f.sp. bromus, Erysiphe betae, E. convolvuli var. calystegiae , E. cruciferarum , E. heraclei, E. pisi, E. polygoni, E. necator, Golovinomyces artemisiae, G. cichoracearum, Leveillula cylindrospora, L. lactucarum , L. lanuginose, L. taurica, Phyllactinia guttata , P. mali, Podosphaera leucotricha, P. fusca, P. pannosa, P. plantaginis .Twenty one fungi report for the first time from this province. Also pumpkin for P. fusca, and liquorice for E. pisi , report as new hosts in Iran.
