Use Of Crumb Rubbers In Roller Compacted Concrete Pavements

Nowadays, the use of Roller compacted Concrete as an economical solution for paving roads has boosted. In addition, the human confront the enormous volume of stocked pile tires which increase exponentially. Therefore, finding new methods for utilizing used tires is vital. In this study, the effect of recycled tire particles on Roller Compacted Concrete has discussed to evaluate the mechanical performance of them in the concrete, and various percentages of crumb rubber, 0, 5, 10 and 35, were used as a replacement of nature sand. The results showed, with increasing the percentage of rubber particles in the concrete, the unit weight of fresh concrete decreases. Also, it was observed that the compressive strengths of 28 days for 5% and 10% of samples were increased and it was reduced for other samples in comparison with the control specimen. The flexural strength of samples for the sample of 5% rubber particle was improved, however afterward for the samples with rubber particles more than 5%, it was decreased. Finally, the water absorption test was engaged in order to find the amount of water which was absorbed by concrete samples. Findings showed replacement of sand by used tire particles reduces water absorption.
