Comparative Study Methods for Determining the Direction of Signal Arrival in a 3D Radar Application System

Direction of Arrival (DOA) is one of the tasks undertaken by radar to determine the arrival angle of an object or target. To find out the arrival angle of a target can be done by the algorithm method, but it still cannot be ascertained which algorithm method is appropriate for 3D radar applications. This paper observes performance of Algorithms MVDR (Minimum Variances Distorsionless Response), MUSIC (Multiple Signal Classification) and ESPRIT (Estimation of Signal Parameters via Rotational Invariance Techniques) to estimate direction of the arrival signal and observe errors in the detection, which will analyzed in the algorithm performance by parameters such as SNR parameter, the number of elements, the number of samples and the distance between elements. Furthermore, by doing sweep the arrival angle to verify that the algorithm can be used to detect different angles and to observe the accuracy. Each algorithm was implemented on a radar signal that has been designed by PT Len Industry. The method that used in this research is an experimental method. Based on data analysis shows that MUSIC Algorithms have the best accuracy. This can be seen by the average error in the SNR parameter, the number of elements, the number of samples and the distance between elements is smaller than the other algorithms. As a final step to validate it, each algorithm is implemented for 3D radar signals. Simulation results show that the MUSIC algorithm has the best accuracy. So it can be concluded that the algorithm has the best accuracy is the MUSIC algorithm. Keyword : Direction of Arrival, Radar 3D, MUSIC Algorithm, MVDR Algorithm, ESPRIT Algorithm.
