Static Analysis Of A Double-beam System By Finite Element Method
|
Elastically connected beam models have been used to represent many engineering problems such as multiple pipeline systems and composite beams. Moreover, these models are generally composed of two or more parallel beams interconnected by elastic layers. In this paper, bending analysis of elastically connected double-beam system based on classical beam theory and elastic layer represented by Pasternak foundation are done using finite element method. A double beam finite element with eight degrees of freedom is derived and both stiffness matrix and load vector are explicitly obtained assuming approximate functions to interpolate transverse displacements. In addition, both the cross-sectional and mechanical properties of upper and lower beams can be distinct, but their lengths are the same. Numerical solutions of the present method are validated for different cases of static loading and boundary conditions by comparison with other analytical solutions available in the literature.
