Snow Landscape And Design Plants

As one of the indispensable elements of landscape design, plants have many functions other than making environments more liveable, such as control of erosion, air – noise pollution, slope stabilization, screening undesired views, aesthetic beauty and refreshing. In order to maintain four - season liveliness in the areas designers arrange, that need to know and use characteristics of plants properly such as flower, fruit, leaf, stem, shoot, growth rate, calligraphic structure, suitability for solitary use as well as the future image. Especially in the winter cities, unique plant designs to these cities should be made by recognizing the plants suitable for snow landscape. The snow, which is seen to be a disadvantage by most designers, is an advantage to the landscape on plants because of its high visual quality. In this aim, the photos of some plants in the city center of Erzurum were taken as a part of the study in order to break monochrome landscapes formed by snow cover to take advantage of the snowy appearance with suitable plant designs, to prevent people from cutting off from nature in the long winter season. Visual quality assessment of these plants was performed by making some suggestions on snow landscape values.
