Effect Of Aflatoxins On Infant Growth

Aflatoxins are fungal toxins produced by certain species of Aspergillus especially A. flavus and A. parasiticus. Aflatoxin M 1 is a hydroxylated metabolite of aflatoxin B 1 formed in liver and excreted into breast milk. The aim of this paper was assesment of the relationship Aflatoxins and infant growth. Necessary literature review have been done. The association between aflatoxin exposure and infant stunting is less well-defined. AF-albumin, reflects an integrated measure of exposure over several months. The presence of AFM1 in mothers’ breast milk was associated with lower length at birth and with the presence of AFM1 in infants. several studies linking aflatoxin to growth impairment in infant. Cross-sectional studies demonstrated that stunting and underweight were associated with higher AF-alb levels. many world regions where populations are at risk from chronic high level Aflatoxins exposures. Childhood stunting is associated with cognitive impairment and increased vulnerability to infectious disease. According to the findings of this study, we need developing strategies to reduce exposure to aflatoxin in foods and breast milk. Keywords: Aflatoxins, Infant, Growth
