Introducing A New Object Function For Optimal Power Flow Problem

This paper is a comparison among the potent of Genetic Algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm and a new modified form of it based optimal power flow (OPF), respectively, in order to optimize a new object function. The applied object function shows the total apparent power of each branch of a test system, IEEE 30 bus test system. The most striking feature of this object function is that, optimizing it can keep the system away from high thermal load profiles. Beside of it, this paper brings a comprehensive survey about modeling Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) (including Thyristor-Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC), Thyristor Controlled Phase Shifter (TCPS), and Static VAR Compensator (SVC)) in heuristic optimization algorithms based OPF and effect of them on optimizing the mentioned object function when they are applied in order to improve the most crucial area of the system. The mentioned areas have been specified by Fast Voltage Stability Limit and Maximum loadability limit. This method of improvement has been mentioned in previous published papers just by considering one type of FACTS, while this paper has applied three types of FACTS devices. Results shows the superiority of the new mentioned improved form of PSO and also the FACTS effect on optimization of the mentioned objective function.
