A New Topology For Multilevel Inverters With Symmetric And Asymmetric Configurations

This paper presents a multilevel inverter that produces many steps in output voltage with fewer power electronic switches. The configuration of proposed inverter is modular and extendable. The proposed topology consists of a combination of series-connected switching units and a conventional H-bridge converter. The proposed multilevel inverter has been analyzed in both symmetric and asymmetric configurations. The characteristics of both symmetric and asymmetric configurations are given in detail. Finally, a laboratory scale prototype of the inverter is implemented and the experimental measurement results are given to validate the inverter proper operation.
