Inhibitory Activity Of Lactobacillus Acidophilus Against Growth And Enterotoxin Production Of Staphylococcus Aureus

Staphylococcal intoxication is one the important problem in human society caused by enterotoxins of Staphylococcus aureus. Probiotics (Lactic acid bacteria) have also been known as health and immune system modulator. In this experiment we assessed the effects of 108cfu/ml Lactobacillus acidophilus LA5 on growth of 105cfu/ml Staphylococcus aureus at 25 °C and 35°C in TSB. In the next step samples from the co cultured and control were pour plated in Baird parker and MRS agars to compute the bacterial count at 0, 8, 24, 48, 72 hours incubation at 25 °C and 35°C . It was found that Lactobacillus acidophilus (LA5 ) reduced the growth of Staphylococcus aureus 29213. The reduction number of S. aureus cells comparing to controls was about 3 logs in 25 °C and 2 logs in 35 °C. Production of enterotoxins by S. aureus was also assessed using ELIZA rida screen Kit. The results showed inhibition in both temperatures of 25 and 35 °C. Production of entrotoxins A, C and E at 25 °C and A and/orC at 35 °C was affected by Lactobacillus acidophilus in this study . In conclusion, the results of this experiment indicated that the effectiveness of Lactobacillus acidophilus in inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus growth and enterotoxin production. According to these results we may use Lactobacillus acidophilus for its antibacterial activity in food industry in order to produce safe foods.
