Effect Of Nanosilica On Compressive Strength Of Mortar With Using Silica Sand And Volcano Sand

The development of technology in the field of construction of concrete bridges have increased quite rapidly. How to make concrete that has a high compressive strength and high durability is with the addition of nanomaterial. The addition of a nanomaterial as a binder in concrete/mortar causes the pores contained in the concrete/mortar can be filled with nano particles so that the mortar becomes better and more resistant. Concrete or mortar with a good impermeable can improve the compressive strength and durability than concrete structures. This study aims to determine the mechanical properties of mortar with added nanomaterial. The mortar sand used comes from Bangka and volcanic sand from Muntilan. The size of mortar specimen is 50 mm x 50 mm x 50 mm. The cement used is a cement type I (OPC = Ordinary Portland Cement). Nanosilica as much as 5% of the weight of the binder (ie weight of cement plus nanosilika) put into a mortar mix which uses silica sand and volcanic sand. The test method refers to the SNI-03-6825-2002. Based on the test results, mortar which use silica sand from Bangka with containing SiO2 is greater than 50% can improve the compressive strength of mortar 12% greater than mortar without addition nanosilica.
