Characteristic Analysis Of Bi-axial Stretching Pvdf Thin Film

Bi-axial stretching process of PVDF fabrication is proposed in this article. In comparison with uniaxial stretching different stretching ratio and heating temperature are investigated. The FTIR and XRD are used to observe the β fraction and the degree of crystallinity, which nearly determines the quality of piezoelectricity. Optical Microscope and AFM are also used to observe the surface morphology and roughness of the PVDF thin film. Via numerous experiment tests, the maximum value of the fraction of β phase and degree of crystallinity is achieved at 80oC for both uni-axial and bi-axial stretching. Using bi-axial stretching with lower stretching ratio is able to provide enough quality for later polarization. For example, with bi-axial stretching ratio of R=4x4 can successfully fabricate with satisfactory β phase fraction and degree of crystallinity like the uni-axial stretching with higher stretching ratio R=5. The surface chain orientation change and smoothness also imply good characteristics of bi-axially stretched PVDF. The bi-axial stretching method has the advantages of lower stretching ratio requirement as well as better and larger uniformity area achievement.
