Effect Of The Tension Stiffening Index On UHPC Beams Under Torsion

This paper highlights the effect of tension stiffening index on the torsional resistance in under-reinforced ultra-high performance fibre reinforced concrete beams subjected to pure-torsional moment. The different grade of steel reinforcements was used. Meanwhile, the amounts of transverse and longitudinal reinforcements were kept constant. Four under-reinforced ultra-high performance fibre reinforced concrete beams were designed based on ACI318. Test results confirmed that the torsional resistances at the crack and peak loads were improved due to the reduction in the tension stiffening index. The stiffness of cracked section were improved due to the reduction in the tension stiffness index, which improved twisting angle as a result. The axial strains in transverse and longitudinal reinforcements were reduced due to a reduction in the tension stiffening index. Moreover, it was found that the angle of inclination of crack at failure and average spacing between spiral cracks increased due to improvement in transverse reinforcement index.
