Low Cycle Fatigue Behavior Of Ni-base Superalloy Hastelloy X For Gas Turbine Blade At Elevated Temperatures

Nickel based superalloy has been used to parts of gas turbine that are exposed to high temperature because of its high strength, properties of resistance to creep, and fatigue. Gas turbines’ limit temperatures have been rising to achieve higher efficiency. Development and life prediction of materials that is used to gas turbine is important also. In this study, low cycle fatigue tests about nickel based superalloy(Hastelloy X) material of gas turbine are conducted under various strain ranges at room temperature, 760℃, and 870℃ that demonstrate real operating environment. A life prediction is formulated using Coffin-manson equation. A fractography analysis of the fractured specimens was carried out using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to verify fatigue behavior of Hastelloy X. Experimental results show that cyclic hardening or cyclic softening stress behavior according to temperature variations.
