Soybean And Corn Intercropping On The Different Lime And Husk Ash Dose Under Saturated Soil Culture On Tidal Swamp
|
Indonesia has tidal swamp area ± 20.1 million ha. The main constraint of food crop cultivation on tidal swamp are : a) high pyrite, Al, and Fe; and b) Low pH and low N, P, and K nutrient availability. Saturated soil culture (SSC) is a cultivation technology that gives continuous irrigation and maintains water depth constantly and makes soil layer in saturated condition. By keeping the water-table constantly, soybean and corn will be avoided from negative effect of inundation. This technology is appropriate to prevent pyrite oxidation on tidal swamp. The research was carried out to determine the effect of the dose of lime and husk ash on the growth and productivity of soybean and corn intercropping under saturated soil culture on tidal swamp. The experiment was conducted at Mulyasari Village, Tanjung Lago Sub District, Banyuasin District, South Sumatera Province (11 feet above sea level, 2°38'42.35" South Latitude, and 104°45'5.92" East Longitude), from April to August. The experiment used a randomize complete block design with 2 factors, three replications. The first factor is lime dose, consisted of : 0, 2, 4, and 6 ton ha-1 dolomite. The second factor is husk ash, consisted of : without husk ash , and 1 ton ha-1 husk ash. The calculation of land equivalent ratio (LER) was made with comparing intercropping to the monoculture of soybean and corn with treatment lime : 0 , 2 , 4, and 6 ton ha-1dolomite, on without husk ash and plus husk ash .The result showed that the lime dose affected to the growth and productivity of soybean, and it did not affect to the growth and productivity of corn. While the husk ash dose affected to the growth of soybean and corn, and it did not affect to the productivity of soybean and corn. The interaction of lime and husk ash dose only affected to the leave and stalk dry weight of soybean. The highest leave and stalk dry weight of soybean was obtained on the treatment 6 ton ha-1dolomite with 1 ton ha-1 husk ash, The highest LER was obtained on the treatment 6 ton ha-1dolomite with 1 ton ha-1 husk ash and 6 ton ha-1dolomite with 0 ton ha-1 husk ash than the other treatments. The intercropping system gave the LER > 1, with range 1.31-1.41. This means that intercropping increased land efficiency and gave more benefit than monoculture. In the intercropping on the treatment 6 ton ha-1dolomite with 0 ton ha-1 husk ash the productivity of soybean was obtained 1.45 ton ha-1, and corn 5.68 ton ha-1.
