Green Synthesis of Nickel Ferrite (NiFe2O4) Nanoparticles Using Leaf Extract of Gambir (uncaria Gambir Roxb.)

Nickel ferrite of magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized using leaf of gambir which are low cost and environmental friendly. Green synthesis of nickel ferrite nanoparticles was conducted by hydrothermal method using leaf extract of gambir as capping agent. The prosedure includes preparation of leaf extract of gambir and synthesis of nickel ferrit using FeCl3 and NiCl2 as the starting material (precursors) was dissolved in extract [1]. Formation process of nickel ferrite magnetic was analyzed qualitatively by a simple external magnetic field (Figure 1). The results showed that leaf extract of Gambir can be used as a capping agent in the synthesis of nickel ferrite nanoparticles. The FTIR spectrum showing characteristic stretching vibration band of Fe-O at 600 cm-1 from nickel ferrite magnetic [2]. The diffraction peaks of XRD were confirmed miller indices (220), (311), (222), (400),(511), and (440) plane appearing at 2θ = 30.6°, 36.0°, 37.5°, 43.6°, 57.6°, and 63.3°. The crystalline average size were 17 nm, which estimated from the intensity of high diffraction peak of magnetite at the (311) plane using Debye Scherrer formula.
