Curing Behaviour Of Natural Rubber With Peroxide And Coagent System.

Natural Rubber typically is not used in automotive components and rubber hoses that are exposed to high temperature condition. One of the drawbacks of NR cured with conventional system is its susceptible to heat ageing under high temperature environment. Although, previous work on semi EV and EV system gives NR of reasonable thermal resistant, in recent years, the products specifications have changed, and requirement on endurance performance of product has increased. The study proposed to produce high thermal stable rubber component by peroxide system with addition of coagent. The coagents used were based on acrylate and metal acrylates groups such as Zinc Diacrylate and Zinc dimethacrylate. In this work, the effect of coagents on curing characateristics temperatures at 150°C, 160°C and 170°C were studied. The Scorch time, t2 of the compound decreased while cure time t90 increased with the peroxide coagent system. Greater torque was also observed as the curing temperature shifted to 170°C as compared to 150°C. In general, peroxide – cured Natural Rubber has better reversion and thermal stability behaviour as compared to sulphur- cured Natural Rubber.
